Ausma Matcate born in Riga, Latvia, 4/20/1933. At the end of second world war, she left Latvia together with her mother and sister. From 1944-1950 lived in displaced persons camp in Germany. Arrived in the USA in 1950. Studied commercial art and design at the State University of New York, Farmingdale, LI. 1951-1953. In 1959 she graduated from Cooper Union Art School, while working as commercial artist in New York City. First solo exhibition of abstract paintings, in Aspects gallery, NYC in 1961.
