SAIETS (Annual Meeting) - 2006. Was be held in the Catskills from October 20 -22. The 2006 Annual Meeting (Saiets) was attended by an overflowing crowd of members and guests, who had come from as far as California, Texas, Maine, Canada and Missouri. The business meeting included a discussion of elections, the “Global Art Society” project, “Museum and Preservation” issues, ALA’s inventory, and the web site to name a few. Highlights of the very rich cultural program included a lecture by Prof. Atis Kampars, pro-rector of the Latvian Fine Arts Academy in Riga, with comments by Prof. Janis Winters, followed by a presentation by Linda Treija on the work of new artists in Latvia. Animation artist, Signe Baumane, showed her award winning videos which were received with great enthusiasm. Members led a gallery walk/discussion through the weekend exhibition of their work. Poets, Voldemars Avens, Sarma Muizniece-Liepina, and Maija Meirane Slesere read their work. In addition to films, and auction members frolicked at the traditional “hat party”.
