New York artist Gerda Roze, a painter, printmaker
and constructionist, was born in Riga, Latvia and came to the USA after
WWII. Her formal
art training began with Sid Dickinson at the Art Students League, followed
by independent studies here and abroad. The artist's non-objective abstractions
with some very expressionistic undertones have ruled her creations since
the early 1970's and continue to reflect her independence and innovation.
According
to the artist ... " Non-objective art
is a highly personal artistic expression which almost requires " an
act of faith" of
the viewer to accept pure form and color as subject matter as well as
style..."
