March 2007 letter from Norvel Hermanovski,
keynote speaker at ALMA Annual Meeting in October 2005:
Norvel writes: I have just completed a mural in a private home on Belgrave
Square in London with one of my assistants. We are promoting ourselves
in London now as well. I will be heading to France where I have meeting
at the Louvre with one of the curators. It seems that my company and I
were the largest producer of copies of Fragonard that ever was. He is writing
a book on the subject and has requested and interview. So I leave
Riga (got to keep the heritage going) next week reluctantly until next
time. And its back to the USA where I will have a short stay before
going back to Hong Kong where I now keep an apartment. I have designed
a series of paintings for a luxury hotel in Florida. I say design because
there are basicaly only 4 types of paintings that comprise the over 1000
pieces we have to produce. The technique I used is loosely based on
Traditional Vietnamese Lacquer and I have decided to have the art all produced
in Viet Nam outside of Hanoi. I hope this experience opens up
many doors to some ancient mediums and techniques for my future work with
my company Silver Hill Atelier. Below is the link to my website.

Vija Celmins Exhibition at Pompidou Centre, Paris, France
American artist Vija Celmins was born in 1938 in Riga (Latvia), and lives
and works in New York. This will be her first-ever drawing retrospective.
It will feature about 60 drawings spanning the period from 1968 to 2006,
many of which have never been on view in Europe before. Celmins invariably
draws from photographs. If WWII-related themes were central to her early
works, the late 1960s saw her focus shift to nature. The sea, the desert,
night skies and - more recently - spider webs have permeated her work since.
After showing in Paris, this exhibition will move on to the Hammer Museum
in Los Angeles, where Celmins lived from 1962 to 1981 (to 8 Jan 2007)
